In this hands-on workshop, we'll dive into the fascinating world of monarchs, exploring their migration patterns, lifecycle, and the critical relationship they have with milkweed. Join us to hear about some of the challenges that monarchs face and learn conservation actions to use in your space to ensure a brighter future for monarchs.  

Workshop Highlights: 

  • Native Plants and Milkweed: Discover the importance of native plants in creating healthy ecosystems and how milkweed serves as the crucial host plant for monarchs. We'll discuss the role of various native plants in supporting monarchs and other wildlife. 

  • Conservation Tips: Gain practical insights into how you can help protect monarchs and their habitats. We’ll highlight ways to contribute to conservation efforts and create butterfly-friendly environments along their migration routes. 

  • Monarch Tagging: Participate in the exciting community science process of tagging monarch butterflies. This hands-on activity helps us track their migration and contributes valuable data to conservation efforts. 

  • OE Spore Testing: Learn about the challenges monarchs face, including the impact of Ophryocystis elektroscirrha (OE) spores, a parasitic threat to their health. We'll demonstrate how to test for these spores and discuss their effects on monarch populations.
