  • Monarch Migration obstacle course

In this guided, interactive obstacle course, participants will firsthand experience the journey of the monarch butterfly. Beginning at Chrysalis Castle, they’ll “emerge” as butterflies and receive an egg to carry north—symbolizing the start of the monarch’s multi-generational spring migration from the mountains west of Mexico City.

As they travel, participants will search for milkweed, undergo metamorphosis three times, and interact with “male monarchs” through a playful dance. Their journey continues all the way to Canada, where they become the Super Generation with capes to represent the butterflies that make the migration south. Along the return route, they’ll face challenges like hail, cars, and taggers while collecting nectar to fuel their l flight back to Mexico. The journey concludes at a Día de los Muertos altar, connecting monarch migration with cultural traditions that honor their arrival in Mexico each fall.

  • Pollinator Picnic

In this family-friendly, interactive matching game designed to be played without a facilitator, participants will “host a picnic” for their pollinator friends and match pollinators—such as bees, birds, bats, butterflies, and moths—to the native Texas plants they help pollinate.

  • Blooming Buddies

Blooming Buddies is a plant-to-pollinator matching experience exploring the special relationship between plants and pollinators. Participants learn the form and function of plants, discovering how shape, color, and smell guide these connections.

As a final step, they apply what they’ve learned by matching native plants with larger-than-life pollinators. This experience is supported by Blooming Buddies: Go Pollinate! Card Game.

  • Little Birder I Spy

In this immersive experience, participants will be introduced to basic birding skills, including how to properly hold and focus binoculars. Using the Little Birder Guide as a resource, they will practice their observation skills by playing I Spy to locate replicas of common Texas bird species placed throughout the learning area.

  • The Bizzee BumbleBee

In this guided, group experience, participants adventure through the life of a native bumblebee. The journey begins when they receive their first golden egg to protect as they survive the winter tunnel and, if successful, undergo metamorphosis to emerge as a costumed bumblebee in spring. From there, they enter the Meadow, filled with larger-than-life pollen-filled flowers and bee shelters. As they collect pollen and avoid predators, each participant builds and grows their own colony until the season returns to winter.

  • Lights Out! Bird City Maze

In this guided, immersive activity, participants will transform into migrating birds with wings and a UV headlamp as they journey through a maze that simulates a Texas night sky. Along the way, they’ll discover how birds use the stars to navigate and how artificial light can disrupt their migration paths. Through this experience, participants will learn why turning off unnecessary lights during migration season helps protect birds traveling across Texas skies.

  • Rave! at the Bat Cave

Rave like the bats in a cave! In this immersive experience, you will discover how bats use echolocation to navigate in the dark. Then, you’ll have your own sound experience in the “bat caves” with silent-disco headphones and rave music of your choice.

  • Caterpillar Condos

Caterpillar Condos is a TEKS-aligned, month-long program that brings nature directly into your classroom, giving students a front-row seat to the magic of monarch metamorphosis. Through a hands-on experience paired with a simple, ready-to-use digital curriculum, students observe the full life cycle of a monarch butterfly while participating in a national citizen science project.

Designed for ease, the program requires less than an hour of prep per week. Students are guided by Birdie through four engaging, video-free lessons (PK–4th grade, English or Spanish), supported by a printable monarch journal and real-world activities. Each Caterpillar Condo includes everything you need—live caterpillar, milkweed plant, habitat, and tagging materials.

  • People as Pollinators

An empathy-driven installation where participants become pollinators–birds, bees, bats, and butterflies–donning headbands and face paint to journey through an artist-made tie-dyed magic metamorphosis tunnel.
